Barclays Wealth hires six senior bankers in Singapore

The appointments of Soh Chye Guan as Market Head, Singapore and Malaysia, and Errie Maksum as Market Head, Indonesia, signal the intent of Barclays Wealth to capture growth in key markets
Barclays Wealth, the global wealth management division of Barclays PLC, today announces the appointment of another six senior bankers to its Southeast Asia and South Asia teams based in Singapore.
Effective 23 July 2010, Soh Chye Guan joins Barclays Wealth as Market Head of Singapore and Malaysia. He will oversee and manage the team of private bankers and deliver the growth targets for the Singapore and Malaysia markets. Prior to joining Barclays Wealth, Mr. Soh was Senior Director, Market Leader Malaysia, and Head of Senior Client Partner Team at HSBC Private Bank in Singapore since 2009. He has 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, of which the last 20 were in senior private banking roles across JPMorgan and various European financial institutions.
Effective 23 August 2010, Errie Maksum joins Barclays Wealth as Market Head of Indonesia. He will be responsible for overseeing and managing the team of private bankers covering the Indonesia market. Prior to joining Barclays Wealth, Mr. Maksum was Director, Team Leader, Indonesia, at Credit Suisse in Singapore, for the last five years. He has close to 20 years of experience in wealth management, including at Standard Chartered and Citi Private Bank in Indonesia and Singapore.
Both Mr. Soh and Mr. Maksum will report to Mr. Srinivas Siripurapu, Head of Southeast Asia and South Asia, and Market Manager South Asian Community. Barclays Wealth has also appointed four other Singapore-based bankers, covering various Southeast Asia and South Asia markets.
On 1 July 2010, Rachel Loong has joined Barclays Wealth as Director, covering the Singapore market. She has close to 20 years of financial services industry experience, of which the last eight were with Credit Suisse in Singapore as Executive Director, Senior Client Partner, serving high net worth clients in Singapore and Taiwan. Before that she was a relationship manager with Citibank for more than six years.
Sisyanti Jonosisworo joined Barclays Wealth as Vice President within the Indonesia team on 14 June 2010. She joined from PT ANZ Bank Panin in Indonesia where she was a Team Leader managing corporate and institutional banking clients since 2009. She has 20 years of private banking and corporate banking experience across various financial institutions in Indonesia, including UBS, Citibank, Sanwa Indonesia Bank, Indosuez Indonesia Bank, ING Bank Jakarta and PT Bank Sumitomo Niaga.
Nilesh Thakkar and Arunabh Banerjee joined Barclays Wealth, both as Vice President within the South Asia teams, on 2 June and 25 June respectively. The former has ten years of experience in the wealth management industry, having also worked across various roles with Citigroup in Hong Kong, India and Singapore. The latter has close to ten years of experience in the banking industry, across various roles with ABN Amro and HSBC in India. Both of them joined from UBS in Singapore, where they were responsible for servicing NRIs in Asia.

On 1 July 2010, Barclays Wealth announced a private banking joint venture in Japan with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and Nikko Cordial Securities Inc. to provide wealth management services to high net worth individuals in Japan. In November 2008, Barclays Wealth launched private banking services in India.
The six banker appointments announced today follow on the heels of recent senior leadership appointments made by Barclays Wealth across Asia Pacific since the beginning of the year, including Vikram Malhotra, as Managing Director, Head of South Asia; Bryan Henning, as Managing Director, Head of Global Research and Investments, Asia; Urban Wilde, as Managing Director, Chief Risk Officer, Asia Pacific; as well as Hong Kong-based Helen Pun as Market Head of Hong Kong.
